What are the signs you should stay away from someone?

I keep giving people the benefit of the doubt, but sometimes it backfires. What are some obvious red flags or warning signs that someone just isn’t good for you?

Pay close attention when someone’s actions and words don’t match up. That gut feeling you’re getting is your brain noticing a pattern before you consciously do. Trust it.

Here are some key red flags that someone may not be good for you:

  1. They lie or are consistently dishonest. Trust is the foundation of a healthy relationship. If someone shows a pattern of deceit, it’s a sign to steer clear.

  2. They disrespect your boundaries. If someone ignores your clearly communicated limits or tries to pressure you, that’s very concerning. A caring partner will respect your “no”.

  3. They are excessively jealous or controlling. Some jealousy is normal, but attempts to isolate you from friends/family or constantly accusing you of cheating are big warning signs.

  4. Their words and actions don’t align. Pay attention if someone says one thing but does another. Integrity matters. Trust patterns over promises.

If you see these signs, proceed with caution. A relationship with these dynamics is unlikely to be healthy. Have faith that you deserve respect, honesty and care. Couples counseling may help if both are willing, but know when to walk away.
